Today's Action Photo is a picture of a large car-carrier ship turning the bend around Gaillard Cut to pass by Gamboa into Gatun Lake in the Panama Canal! I asked about the white and black crosses and lines, I'm told the trick is for the pilot to line them up visually so only one can be seen, and that indicates he is in a certain spot in the canal, either in the center or the right or left lane.
